Some of Our Favorite Book Stores

As we're writing this, approximately 90 books are in our view. What can we say? We love books! Although we might do links to books on Amazon, we tend to shop at local bookstores. There is nothing better than physically picking up a book in your hand, flipping through the pages, and getting a wiff of the possibilities when you're in the bookstore.

Here is a list of the 7 bookstores that we recommend to others.

A Novel Idea an Independent Book Store that is located at 1726 E Passyunk Ave. Philadelphia, PA 19148. This bookstore is great if you're interested in discovering authors for the first time, as many of them are printed by the small presses. They also have a great, but small, used book section. They also have interesting book talks, and some of the talks are about the mystical arts. They also have great and friendly customer service.

Harriet's Bookshop is a black and woman owned bookstore located on 258 E. Girard Ave. Philadelphia, PA 19125. From their website, "Just weeks before the pandemic hit, Jeannine Cook opened Harriett’s Bookshop in Philadelphia as a way to celebrate Black women authors, activists, and artists. Since then, her work has taken on a larger role in the fight for space and sovereignty. Co-directed by Raishad M. Hardnett and Aidan M. Un." The books you'll find here are not only entertaining reads, but also empowering reads. Harriet's Bookshop also has a strong tie to the community by donating books and offering paid internships for youth.

Head House Books is a locally owned and operated bookstore at 619 South 2nd St, Philadelphia, PA 19147. They have an excellent selection of curated books, and their book selection ranges from children's to fiction to how-to. They also support local authors, and they have frequent author talks. They also support authors in Philadelphia, and you'll frequently see them at author events.

Molly's Books and Records is a small husband and wife owned bookstore/record shop. It is located at 1010 S 9th St Philadelphia, PA 19147. It is a small one room store, and it has a resident cat. They have a great record collection as well as used books. In here, you can find any book ranging from James Joyce to the typical cookbook on how to make mac&cheese.

Mostly Books is located at 529 Bainbridge Street, Philadelphia PA 19147. It is located in an old factory, and they literally have thousands of thousands of used books and records. They do not charge that much money for their used books, and you can literally spend the entire day browsing their book selection.

The Book Trader is located at 7 N 2ND STPHILADELPHIA, PA, 19106, which is in the heart of Old City. It's a perfect bookstore to go to after you see the Betsy Ross House or a play at the Arden. The bookstore has been in existence for 40 years, and you literally can get lost in their stacks! We have been a fan of this bookstore since they were at 5th and South.

The Last Word Bookshop is located at 220 South 40th Street

Philadelphia, PA 19104, which is in the Heart of University City. They have a great used book selection. We always leave this store purchasing a book or 2.

Although these are the 7 book stores that we would recommend to others, what books stores are we forgetting? Anything that you would like to recommend?
